CANDIDATES' THE COMMON INTEREST IN ACTION SCORE
The Common Interest in
Action Score reflects the percentage of Common Interest in Action
positions that a candidate supports. The Common Interest in Action
takes positions when there is a consensus of two-thirds or more on a given
proposal among the more than 100 members randomly assigned to review our
policy brief for that issue. The Past Score reflects issues on
which we took positions that have already been voted on by both the House
and the Senate. The Future Score reflects positions that we have
taken that have not yet come before both the House and the Senate for
votes. The Past Score for incumbents is based on their actual
votes. The Future Score for incumbents, as well as the Past
and Future Scores for challengers, are based on candidates' answers
to our questionnaire.

| Comment by Keith Allred about Candidate: |
| |
Representative Hagedorn has been interested in our
views and expressed appreciation for our work. He has expressed
his receptivity to our approach to policy by recalling an attitude
he cultivated as a Naval officer. His mantra there was, “In God
we trust, all others bring data.” We have worked particularly closely
with him, given the likelihood that the federal court will strike
down Idaho’s open primary, on our proposal for a modified open primary
that would preserve the ability of independents to vote in the primary
while passing constitutional muster. In fact, Representative Hagedorn
was a co-sponsor on an early version of this proposal. |
| Statement by Candidate about Why Running: |
| |
Statement with regards to the reasons I'm running: Having spent
1/2 of my working life in public service (US Navy) and the other
in the private sector, it's become clear to me that the most satisfaction
one can gain is helping others succeed. Our State and it's citizens
deserve proven leadership at the helm to guide us in continued positive
directions. As we all know, issues with drugs, prisons, education,
transportation and health and welfare are not only monetarily taxing
our citizens but socially taxing us as well. These issues require
a vigilant focus on working out solutions that we can all be happy
with in the long term. I have in the past, and will continue in
the future, focus my leadership skills and abilities to that end.
|
| Candidate Statement about The Common Interest: |
| |
Thoughts on the Common Interest and how I would like to work
with them: As we have in the past, I enjoy finding new ideas and
solutions to issues with TCI. I always look forward to working
with Keith and digging into issues to find the bridge that will
help us cross the barriers of partisanship. |
| Candidate Bio: |
| |
Bio: Marv grew up in Northern Idaho on a farm north of Moscow.
He went to school in Potlatch and entered the Navy in 1974. After
20 years in the Navy, Marv came back home to Idaho to work in
the semi-conductor equipment manufacturing business. Along the
way he started his company The Hagedorn Group, Inc (www.THGwholesale.com,
now one of America's largest equipment wholesale trade firms in
North America) and is now working as full time CEO. Marv is the
Idaho State Representative for District 20 in Meridian, Idaho.
|
| Candidate Statement on Partisan Politics and
Special Interests: |
| |
My thoughts with regards to partisan politics and/or special
interests in the Legislature: Both of these are factors that one
must be aware of and prepared to deal with. The basis of politics
is that everyone has an equal say and vote. One must work within
the system that exists while trying to reduce the influences of
interests not representing the best interests of the citizens
of the state. It's those citizens that must be represented, not
a party or a company... the citizens. This is their state, we
are here to work within the process set by the State's Constitution
to represent their best interests. |
