Comment by Keith Allred about Candidate:

Statement by Candidate about Why Running:
My top priority is to improve the quality of education in Idaho. I believe that educational priorities must focus on early childhood reading development, teaching basic academic skills, providing additional opportunities for students to excel, and graduating students with employable skills. I share your concern about educational opportunities as I have seven grandchildren who are or will attend Idaho public schools. With each child, we only have one chance to do it right.
My next priority is to promote economic growth. Economic growth is the key to enhancing the quality of life. I believe we must create a business environment that supports development and expansion of businesses in Idaho. This will create jobs and enhance our quality of life. I know that lower taxes and tax incentives will spur growth, create jobs and enhance our quality of life.
Transportation is an integral part of commerce and industry, essential for movement of goods and people in the State of Idaho. I believe it is critical to provide adequate funding to maintain the safety of our roads and bridges in Idaho. Keeping up with scheduled maintenance will save lives and money.

Traditional family values are the foundation of our nation. Families, not government programs, are the best way to properly nurture and protect our children, care for our elderly, preserve and perpetuate our cultural and religious heritage, and assure that our traditional values are transmitted to the next generation. I understand that promoting strong families and renewing an individual sense of responsibility are key to reversing the erosion of our social fabric.
I believe that Idaho's social and fiscal programs should reinforce parental responsibility and authority, and not promote or reward the disintegration of the family. The generational cycle of dependence and despair must be broken. I strongly feel the answers are in quality education, job opportunities, and individual responsibility.

Candidate Statement about The Common Interest:
THE COMMON INTEREST…GOVERNMENT BY THE PEOPLE is the best resource I have seen for unbiased information for the voter. I applaud your efforts and look forward to using your website in the future. As we look at the issues, we are all frustrated that we are experiencing a government that is not responsive to the needs of Idaho. We need to think of finding creative solutions to problems, not just managing "the existing bureaucracy". We need to focus on what is best for Idaho and not let the influence of partisan politics or special interests determine our destiny. Using the reasoning "because that's the way we've been doing it" will probably get us the same results we have had in the past. "Real change" requires thinking "outside the box" to find innovative solutions that will increase efficiency and save money.
Candidate Bio:
As a native of Idaho, Richard Dean Jarvis has over thirty years experience including business owner, financial consultant, State Farm Insurance Agent, real estate investor, developer, entrepreneur, farmer, banker, builder, publisher, and pilot.
Rich has been active in the community throughout his life. He has served with various organizations including Rotary Club International, Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts of America, Southern Idaho Estate Planning Association, and Ore-Ida Life Underwriters Association.
Rich played collegiate rugby and graduated with a degree in Business Management. He has facilitated workshops in Extraordinary Leader, Strengthening Marriage Courses, and Crucial Conversations. His talents include demonstrating how to maintain balance and be successful with multiple priorities.
Rich and Mary Jarvis have six children (three girls and three boys) and eleven grandchildren. By the end of 2008, what the two of them began in 1972 will now be a family of 25.
Family reunions are filled with adventure and never a dull moment. The family gathers together at least once a year from Texas, Utah and Idaho. During these summer times, on a late afternoon, the family can be found gathered together in the patio room. As the evening approaches, the sunset displays a spectacular array of reds and golds. As the adults linger, the night creeps in and the sound of water bursting from the sprinklers in the field can be heard. It is easy to feel the peace and breathe in the unpolluted air the country round about brings . It is at times like this that the Jarvis family appreciates more than ever being raised in the amazing state of Idaho.
Love of country is a big part of the Jarvis family. The Scouting program, freedom of religion, remembering our Veterans, and appreciating all the blessings that living in America brings, are just some of the important things that they are grateful for. Mary's father lives with them in Meridian and is a Navy veteran who served on the USS Bataan during World War II. Respect and reverence for the flag and those who have served in the Military are very significant to them.
Candidate Statement on Partisan Politics and Special Interests:
Sometimes we focus on limiting government, which is an enormous task, and not give enough serious thought on improving government. We need to demand from our government the high level of performance that the private sector entrepreneurs and workers achieve every day. I am for good government, for limited government, and for solution oriented government. I am against government incompetence, inefficiency, waste, and fraud.
