Candidates' Common Interest Score
The Common Interest Score (CIS) reflects the percentage of Common Interest positions that a candidate supports. “CIS – Past” reflects issues on which we took positions that have already been voted on by both the House and the Senate. “CIS – Future” reflects positions which we have taken which have not yet come before both the House and the Senate for votes. The CIS – Past for incumbents is based on their actual votes on those issues. The CIS – Future for incumbents, as well as the CIS – Past and CIS – Future for challengers, is based on candidates answers to our questionnaire. The Common Interest takes positions when there is a consensus of two-thirds or more on a given proposal among those members randomly assigned to review our policy brief for that issue.
